With our previous blog we looked at top 4 bursaries in Agriculture , in this blog we’ll be looking at bursary opportunities for those who missed our previous blogs and how they can submit late bursary applications.

Illovo Sugar Ltd. is Africa’s biggest sugar producer and supplier operating in six African countries to consumer as well as industrial markets. The group also exports sugar not only in African countries but also worldwide especially European Union and USA.

Illovo Sugar Ltd Bursaries

The company currently offers bursaries to University students from previously disadvantaged groups in South Africa. Students who wish to continue their undergraduate studies in the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering (heavy)
  • Electrical Engineering (light)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Agriculture

Students who are studying at Technikon should continue their studies to the B.Tech Degree to be sponsored to do their in-service training. The bursary covers academic (such as registration, tuition and examination fees), accommodation, meals and books costs. The grantees are required to work for Illovo Sugar as well as complete course-related practical training at one of Illovo’s Operating Centres.

Successful candidates will be required to perform vacation work for Illovo Sugar if necessary. Practical training course may also be required at one of Illovo’s Operating Centres.

Illovo Sugar Ltd Bursary Requirements and Eligibility

  • South African citizens
  • Above-average academic results
  • Students who will be enrolling for the second year in 2020 at either a University or University of Technology.
  • Preference will be given to students who come from communities surrounding the Illovo SA operations.
  • Bursaries will be awarded in line with Illovo’s employment equity targets.

More About the Bursary Programme – Coverage Value, Service Contract & Selection

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, study material, accommodation, meals and a stipend per semester. Once students have graduated, they will be required to work for SAFCOL for the equal duration of the bursary received.

Shortlisted candidate will be contacted – should you not receive any feedback within 30 days of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying or intend on studying full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Studying or intend on studying at a recognised and accredited university or university of technology in South Africa

*Preference will be given to: female students, previously disadvantaged students, those with disabilities and students who reside in communities adjacent SAFCOL plantations

Agbiz Centenary Bursary 2020

Closing Date: 6 December 2019.

About Agribusiness Centenary

Agribusiness Centenary Bursary Fund was established to celebrate Agbiz 100 years of existence. The bursary’s goal is to promote Masters or PhD level research in agribusiness related fields. Agbiz is an association of agribusinesses operating in South Africa.

Agribusiness Centenary Bursaries

The bursary is awarding an annual bursary of R34 000.00 available to a South African student registered for a Masters or Doctorate degree in any agriculture or agribusiness similar studies at any accredited South African university.

Bursary holders will have the responsibility to provide academic progress from the academic supervisor or head of the department to Agbiz, biannually. In the event of unsatisfactory academic reports or discontinued education, the bursary will be canceled and the bursary holder will be required to reimburse the bursary amount given including its interest within two months of cancellation.

  • Completed a relevant undergraduate degree.

Maize Trust Bursary 2019 – 2020

About Maize Trust Bursary

The Maize Trust was created in August 1998 to serve the South African grain industry. It was formed after the closure of the Maize Board, acquiring the remaining assets of that Board. The Trust provides financial support for institutions and organisations with programmes that focuses on market and production related research. Another objective of the Trust is the acquisition, adaptation and distribution of market information for the local maize industry.

Maize Trust Bursaries

Maize Trust invites students to apply for bursaries to further their studies for postgraduate qualifications.

Maize Trust bursary is valued at R78 334 per year for MSc students and R94 817 per year for PhD students. Bursary recipients will be required to work in the South African maize industry for a period equivalent to the bursary awarded.

The following study fields are required for the Maize Trust bursary:
