More than 60 farm workers in the Sundays River Valley who underwent skills training, graduated on Friday from the Masifunde Sonke Education and Training Centre.
The centre was launched in 2013 by the Sundays River Citrus Company to provide training to farm workers with a view to them helping them improve their personal performance while also helping to improve the yield on the farms on which they work.
The establishment of the training Centre was at the urging of the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform to provide skills training to farm workers in the area.
SRCC managing director, Ken Nieuwenhuizen, says the training of 67 workers started in September last year, and the last course was completed on February 7.
“It was broad spectrum training across a number of a different interventions that are useful in both the farming environment and personal environment. It was very valuable to the learners and they did extremely well. We had 127 interventions and 67 people involved, it was comprehensive and very valuable to our people, we are very grateful to the department.” says Nieuwenhuizen. – Algoa FM
