It does not often happen that the Eastern Cape Young Farmer representative takes the national title of Young Farmer of the Year. It is a huge achievement, and the Eastern Cape can be very proud.
On Thursday, 21 November 2024 Dwayne Kaschula, the Agri Eastern Cape Young Farmer of the year winner, was announced as the 2024 Toyota/AgriSA Young Farmer of the Year in Johannesburg.
The young farmer of the year competition starts at provincial level when the candidates, farmers under the age of 45, enter the competition and are judged according to certain criteria by Agri Eastern Cape. The finalists are then invited to the Annual Agri Eastern Cape Congress held in Jeffreys Bay where the winner is announced. The Agri Eastern Cape Young Farmer of the Year winner is then automatically entered into the national competition where representatives from each province are present.
Dwayne and his team have a very successful farming enterprise where he farms with potatoes, maize and eggs as well as game, Boer goats and a Brangus & Angus stud in the Maclear area. After Dwayne was announced Agri EC young farmer of the year, he was visited by national adjudicators on his farm where they experienced a well-managed and organised operation which later resulted in him being announced as national winner.
Agri EC is extremely proud to have had such a hardworking and dedicated farmer represent the Eastern Cape, and it could not be more well-deserved. Dwayne is proof that hard work pays off.
We would like to encourage Young Farmers of the Eastern Cape to take part in the competition and encourage each other to take on the challenge.
