Agri Eastern Cape manages a number of administrative and operational portfolios on a daily basis. These tasks are handled by the administrative and operational staff based in the Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) office.

This team of permanently employed professionals is led by the Agri Eastern Cape CEO, Mr Brent McNamara.

As Agri Eastern Cape has grown over the years, it has become more and more important to appoint full-time staff members to handle the day to day operations of the Organisation and to ensure the continued uptake of the instructions and concerns raised by the various affiliates and elected officials of Agri Eastern Cape.

Each staff member appointed by Agri Eastern Cape has a specific portfolio they are assigned to and are responsible for the day to functioning of these portfolios:

Rural Safety

The objective of the Rural Safety portfolio within Agri Eastern Cape is to implement safety plans, strategies, and infrastructure to ensure safer farming and rural communities throughout the Eastern Cape Province. The staff members and elected officials within the Rural Safety portfolio also engage with the South African Police Service and other state entities on a regular basis to address various topics that affect the Agricultural Sector. Agri Eastern Cape is a proud member of the E2 Project.

The Marketing & Communications Portfolio focuses on the public image of Agri Eastern Cape as well as ensuring that the members of Agri Eastern Cape are kept informed of all the projects that the organisation is working on.

Natural Resources

The Agri Eastern Cape Natural Resources portfolio handles all matters pertaining to water, natural resources base management, mining and shale gas development, square kilometre array and law reform, and litigation. Agri EC regularly meets with the Department and other role-players to discuss natural resource related matters. This portfolio also contributes to forums participating in discussions and remedies relating to drought, climate change, invasive species control, animal health FPA’s, erosion and pest control, promotion of conservation of agriculture and climate smart agriculture. The natural resources portfolio at Agri EC is also taking the initiative to educate themselves in legislative developments and initiatives.

Trade & Economics

The Agri Eastern Cape Trade and Economics portfolio includes activities that mainly relates to trade and industry as well as economic issues that go hand in hand with trading. Trade cannot take place with damaged infrastructure and this affects the economy of the agricultural sector. This portfolio also contributes to agricultural input costs, the refund on the use of diesel for agricultural purposes and tax issues. We oversee aspects pertaining to local government matters, road infrastructure, telecommunication and electricity tariffs and issues. Agri EC regularly meets with the different Departments. These meetings revolve around discussing economic and trade issues/concerns and engaging about the state of certain roads, property rates, Eskom infrastructure & pricing, working of harbours and taxes. We also regularly share information with our members and the public, as received from the Department, with regards to future implementations and planning.

Human Resources/Labour

This portfolio gives attention to policy and formulation of labour legislation, the National Minimum Wages as well as problems experienced in practice. It also provides advice and information to members with regard to latest labour legislation.

Agriculture Eastern Cape Staff

Brent McNamara

Chief Executive Officer

Brent is a farmer from the Alexandria area in the Eastern Cape, and after a number of years serving Organised Agriculture, he was appointed the CEO of Agri Eastern Cape in January 2021. Brent also heads up the Land Portfolio.

Mornay Viljoen

Operations Manager

Mornay previously worked in the South African Police Service as a Captain. After 36 years in the police, he joined Agri EC. He has all the expertise and more required to manage the Operations department.

Natasja Barkhuizen

Admin Manager

Natasja has served Agri Eastern Cape since May 2006 and with all these years of institutional knowledge under her belt, she is an invaluable member of the team! Natasja is the link between the Affiliated Associations and the office staff.

Megan Maritz

Natural Resources Assistant Manager

Megan joined the Agri Eastern Cape team in January 2021 as the administrative assistant to the Trade & Economics Manager, but quickly showed a flair and keen interest for the Natural Resources Portfolio where she has made a positive impact in a short space of time and has made the portfolio her own.

Teresa Barkhuizen

Administrative Assistant

Teresa is the assistant to two managers and assists both with the day to day admin within their portfolios.

Lise Potgieter

Marketing Coordinator

Lise joined Agri Eastern Cape in February 2024. She graduated from Stellenbosch University with a B-Agric degree. Lise controls the day-to-day marketing and communications.

Andries Klopper

Trade & Infrastructure Assistant Manager

Andries is from the Somerset East area and manages trade and infrastructure such as Eskom and roads. He also takes control of the traceability tags for the EC RPO.

Angus du Plessis

Agri Ops Coordination Centre Coordinator

Angus was appointed in this position after showing great work ethic as an operator in the Agri Ops Coordination Centre. He oversees that everything runs smoothly in the Agri Ops Room and takes good care of the operators.
