Stricter Regulation on the Trade of Recycled Copper, a Resolution risen by the Klaassmits Agricultural Association at the Annual Agri Eastern Cape Congress at the end of July 2024. Brigadier Petzer was nominated to respond to this Resolution due to his expertise and involvement in the FLASH (Firearms Liquor And Second-Hand Goods) department in the South African Police Service.
FLASH has risen their concern regarding the trade of non-ferrous metals to higher levels and thus the government have put a temporary solution in place by banning the export of non-ferrous metals, but this doesn't stop illegal trade. The number of cases reported for damage to infrastructure is a continuous threat to the economy of our country, thus these cases have been allocated to the Organised Crime Unit of the Province, but specifically to the Economic Infrastructure Task Team in Gqeberha, says Brigadier Petzer.
Agri SA has assisted in the fights against the scourge by availing access to camera footage as well as the involvement of stakeholders, such as security firms, parastatals and law enforcement officials.
The presentation presented by Brigadier Petzer at the Agri EC Congress can be found below where it clearly states the problem we are left with as well as the strategies they have implemented to solve the problem.
