The Agri EC President, Peter Cloete and CEO, Brent McNamara attended the first day of the EC Export Symposium being held in East London. Exports of agricultural products are critical to the sustainability of the commercial agricultural sector. While agricultural export opportunities will come under the spotlight on Day 2 during the panel discussion on stimulating Agricultural and Food exports, where our CEO is a panelist, valuable insights on our trade relationship with the EU were shared.
A presentation by Luc Fabry, the Trade and Investment Commissioner attached to the Belgium Embassy, was particularly insightful regarding the rules of the game and what South Africa needs to do to be able to export especially red meat products into the EU. Information and advice obtained at this conference will be followed up by discussions in the following week with key role players to resolve on measures that are needed to continue to grow exports to the EU, who remain our biggest trading partner.
