Following the earlier announcement made in October 2022 and following the November General Council meeting, Agri EC and the EC RPO would like to inform members that the envisioned Red Meat Portfolio for the Province is now operational.
This Portfolio will focus on the management of animal disease threats in conjunction with the Animal Health Forum, production best practises, market development, producer development and both critical governmental and non-governmental stakeholder engagement.
Both organizations would like to welcome Dehan Kukkuk to the Eastern Cape and the position. Dehan completed a BSc Agriculture in Animal Science from the University of Pretoria and has, until taking up this appointment been employed in the pork industry as a farrowing house manager on a Topigs Norsvin nucleus farm. With the formal pork industry leading the way with regards to bio-security, we believe that Dehan will prove to be an asset for the EC Red Meat sector.
The Red Meat Portfolio has been placed within the Commodity Chamber of Agri EC and is situated at our offices in Gqeberha. The existing EC RPO Executive will provide strategic direction to this Portfolio.
Until a final decision has been made by the EC RPO regarding funding, membership and affiliation, following their Annual Congress, this Portfolio, which will eventually become member based will be funded by Agri EC.
As such, this service will currently be available to both Agri EC and EC RPO members.
Red meat producers currently contributing to the EC RPO should still continue to do so if they so wish.
